You do not need a garage full of tools. These ten cover hanging pictures, tightening hinges, bleeding radiators and most flat-pack furniture.
- Cordless drill with a set of bits
- Claw hammer
- Screwdrivers: flat and cross-head
- Adjustable wrench
- Tape measure
- Spirit level
- Stud and cable detector
- Utility knife

- Radiator key
Before you drill
Always run a cable and pipe detector over the wall first. Cables often run straight up and down from switches and sideways from outlets.

For anything heavy, high or electrical, book a handyman — most small jobs take less than an hour.
